Welcome to

Catherine Moss Counselling

I understand that making the decision to see a counsellor is a big step to take - but it can be a positive one. Please read on to find out more about how I can help.

How Can Counselling Help?

Counselling isn't about fixing you. You're not broken.

There are many reasons people come to counselling, we all experience emotional difficulties some times. Maybe the past is showing up and now is the right time to talk to someone about it. Or maybe you feel stuck and want someone to walk alongside you as you find a way through, with a better understanding of you and your feelings.

I provide you, the client, with a safe space where you can feel accepted and understood. With an empathic and non-judgemental approach, therapy can help you gain a better understanding of yourself through exploration at your own pace. I'll meet you with kindness, gentleness and compassion, working collaboratively to piece things together and make connections. You are the expert on you. I'll work with you to empower you to make your own changes.

Counselling With Young People

I understand that young people have to cope with stress and change in their lives. Be it changes to body, relationships, family structures, loss, friendship difficulties or moving through school, college, university and navigating the different demands of work or exams.

It can be confusing, sometimes overwhelming. Uncertainties can arise which can manifest in anxiety, low self esteem, depression or feeling stuck and struggling to move forward.

Counselling for young people can be that safe place to talk, to be heard, to explore and understand self in a non judgemental environment. Counselling can help with processing difficult feelings, increase awareness, acceptance and manage feelings in a supportive, empowering way.

What To Expect

Whether it's your first time in counselling or psychotherapy, or you’re coming back to therapy after a break, I understand how daunting it can be. You’ve taken the first step. Below is a brief outline of how I work and what to expect.

Initial Session

After you make contact we’ll arrange an initial session. This is when we can talk about what brings you to counselling now and what you might want to change or do differently. We might talk about what it is from the past that is negatively affecting your present. You’ll have the opportunity to ask me any questions about the process and we can arrange sessions.

Working Together

We’ll talk about session numbers, short term or open ended in our initial sessions and review the work together regularly. You can bring what is troubling you and with compassionate understanding we’ll gain insights on your unique experience. We’ll celebrate gains towards your goals, and self awareness and work together to identify what you want to further explore until our work comes to an end.

Fees & Availability

Counselling can work better if we have a regular slot booked in at the same time, same day each week. However, I recognise that lives are busy and shift working means that's not always possible, so I aim to be as flexible as possible.

I have daytime and evening appointments available. Sessions are £50 and last 50 minutes. They can be held online or face to face.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many sessions will I need?

Sometimes people come to therapy with a specific issue they want to focus on which may mean they want a few sessions. And for some people they may want a longer exploration of self and their responses. This can be tailored to suit your needs and regularly reviewed in sessions.

How will I know if it's right for me?

I offer a free 20 minute initial session which gives us the opportunity to decide if we’re right for one another and my approach will work for you. I believe the relationship between counsellor and client is essential to successful therapy. It’s so important you feel safe, comfortable to talk and heard by the counsellor you choose.

What about confidentiality and other ethical issues?

I adhere to the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) ethical framework. I comply with data protection legislation and all client information is kept secure. Client information is not shared other than in exceptional circumstances where I am required to by law or where I am concerned someone is at imminent risk of harm.

Get In Touch

I offer a free 20 minute consultation where we can get to know each other, how we might work together and a space for you to ask any questions.

This enables us to discuss the reasons you are thinking of coming to counselling, whether it could be helpful for you and whether I am the right therapist to help.

All enquires are usually answered within 24 hours, and all contact is strictly confidential and uses secure phone and email services.
